Community Engagement/Events Coordinator


Role Overview


The Community Engagement Officer is a key driver of WLQP’s mission to create safer, more inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ people in West London. You will lead engagement efforts with community partners, councils, and local organisations to expand support, visibility, and opportunities for our members. Through hands-on outreach, intersectional events, and collaborative programme development, you will ensure LGBTQ+ voices influence local decision-making and that the community feels empowered, connected, and represented.

Job Description


Key Responsibilities


Community Support & Engagement

  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with councils, businesses, organisations, educational institutions, and community groups.

  • Collaborate with WLQP team members and volunteers to deliver community engagement initiatives.

  • Act as the first point of contact for community members at events, ensuring a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment.

  • Distribute WLQP resources to partners and community stakeholders as needed.


Event Planning & Outreach

  • Assist in organising and delivering a minimum of two evening or weekend events per week, ensuring smooth coordination and adequate volunteer support.

  • Plan and facilitate online and in-person meetings, community forums, and roundtables.

  • Lead LGBTQ+ Community Forums with residents and council representatives to ensure LGBTQ+ voices are represented in local decision-making.

  • Organise at least eight intersectionality events per year that meet the needs of diverse community groups and strengthen collaboration across marginalised communities.


Visibility & Awareness

  • Promote LGBTQ+ visibility within local councils by coordinating key awareness initiatives such as Trans Day of Visibility, LGBTQ+ History Month, and other recognition events.

  • Work with local authorities to enhance LGBTQ+ inclusion in public spaces, services, and community programmes.

  • Conduct listening exercises and community consultations to ensure LGBTQ+ voices shape future WLQP priorities.


Social Media & Communications

  • Co-manage WLQP’s social media channels, driving engagement and responding to community messages.

  • Develop and schedule daily social media content across multiple platforms to grow and engage WLQP’s online audience.

  • Promote community events, awareness campaigns, and support services through digital communications.

  • Coordinate distribution of promotional materials and maintain communication with stakeholders and partners.


Support & Signposting

  • Stay informed about LGBTQ+ support services and confidently signpost community members to appropriate resources.

  • Ensure all WLQP events are safe, inclusive, and aligned with our safeguarding standards.


Volunteer Programme Support

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and coordination.

  • Schedule volunteers for events and ensure they receive the support and guidance needed.

  • Foster a positive volunteer culture where individuals feel valued, engaged, and supported.


Data Collection & Impact Measurement

  • Track attendance, engagement, and key insights from events and programmes.

  • Provide concise and timely updates on community engagement activities to the WLQP team.


Administrative & Operational Support

  • Support the day-to-day operations of WLQP, including answering calls, responding to emails, and general administrative tasks.

  • Organise and facilitate meetings with stakeholders, organisations, and community partners.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience in community engagement, outreach, or a similar role.

  • Experience working with underrepresented or marginalised communities.

  • Strong ability to gather community feedback and apply insights to improve programme design and delivery.

  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communication skills, capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.

  • Highly organised with strong project management skills, particularly in event planning and coordination.
