The latest LGBTQ+ Advisory Forum took place last night, bringing together local partners to discuss issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities and share updates on ongoing work across the borough.

Key discussions included hate crime and community safety, with the Met Police sharing local data and providing an update on the appointment of a new LGBTQ+ liaison officer, due to start in February. Conversations focused on reporting, prevention, and creating safer public spaces.

Partners also heard from Public Health on the Swap to Stop programme, which offers free support to help people stop smoking, with a focus on improving accessibility for LGBTQ+ communities.

Plans for LGBTQ+ History Month were shared, including an event taking place on 11 February celebrating science, innovation, and community resilience.

The forum also explored public transport safety and accessibility, following a presentation from Hounslow Council on its draft Public Transport Plan, with discussion around tackling harassment and improving travel experiences on buses and trains.

The forum continues to play an important role in supporting safer, healthier, and more inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ residents across Hounslow.

These conversations highlight the importance of continued partnership working to ensure LGBTQ+ voices are heard and reflected in local decision-making. Through open dialogue and shared commitment, the forum plays a vital role in shaping safer public spaces, improving health outcomes, and strengthening inclusion across the borough. This ongoing work supports Hounslow’s wider aim of creating a community where everyone feels respected, supported, and able to thrive.

While this work is currently focused within Hounslow, we are committed to working collaboratively with neighbouring boroughs and councils to address shared challenges affecting LGBTQ+ communities. This work will take place over time, recognising existing capacity and resources, but remains an important part of our long-term approach to building inclusive and connected communities across the region.

If any Hounslow residents would like to take part in the forum, please email info@wlqp.org and we will send you further information.
