In July 2023 we held our first weekly LGBTQ+ workout with Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub, and since then these sessions have grown in popularity and we now host two sessions a week, every Monday & Friday.
Plus, stay tuned for some exciting news on a third, perhaps some would say ‘more relaxed’, workout option coming soon!
What do we offer:
We currently have two workout options, a Spin class and a Circuits class.
Spin is our studio cycling workout, 45 minutes of fast paced pedalling to improve your lower body strength and kick your cardiovascular fitness up a gear.
Circuits are a full body workout where you will tackle a series of physical challenges, from body weight drills to equipment exercises that will test your strength, stamina and endurance!
All our sessions are overseen by qualified instructors who are there to help guide you to get the best from your workout.
Who is it for:
All our sessions are open to everyone, regardless of age, gender or fitness level. If you are new to gym workouts you are encouraged to take each session at your own pace, so don’t let that stop you.
Our instructors will encourage and motivate you, but if you need to take a break or slow down at any point, that is no problem at all. We started hosting these sessions as a safe space for the LGBTQ community to work out together, but we equally recognise that people may not feel comfortable with their own fitness levels, and so our classes are completely non judgemental - no one will be standing over you saying that you did not hit a certain target - if you need time to work up to a certain goal, we encourage you to join us regularly and you will find that your energy and fitness levels will increase over time.
Benefits of working out:
Regular exercise can help control your body weight, improve your mood and mental health, boost your energy, help you sleep better and ultimately, can be fun and social - get to know other LGBTQ+ people from the community and join our socials, some of which are planned directly after a gym session or other WLQP activities that we regularly host.
How much does it cost? Do I need to be a member of Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub to join?
No, you don’t need to be a member of Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub to join our LGBTQ+ workouts. And thanks to funding from Sport England we are delighted to be able to continue to offer all our workout sessions at a massively subsidised rate of just £3 per class.
What else?
All our sessions are for groups of up to 15 people, which is an ideal size for our instructors to be able to observe if someone needs extra assistance, and big enough for you to learn from other attendees and get to know people.
Every class is set to a pop music playlist, some are specifically themed, some are just a party mix of everything.. so you may find yourself working out to the latest Ariana track one week to a Whitney classic the week after, or it may be an entire playlist dedicated to the 80’s or a specific artist - but rest assured that the music will be fun, energetic, uplifting and will get your through your workout!
Showering facilities and solo changing spaces available.
Try for free!
To celebrate our one year anniversary of LGBTQ+ workouts, we are delighted to offer all places on our 1 July Circuits class, and 5 July Spin class for free!
