West London Queer Project (WLQP) is encouraging more LGBTQ+ people to discover the joy of getting active with its Autumn of Tasters, a programme of FREE, friendly, and accessible sessions offering the community the chance to try a range of sports and activities in a welcoming environment.

Founded in 2020, West London Queer Project is one of the UK’s largest LGBTQ+ community organisations, creating inclusive spaces for people to meet, connect and build friendships through sport, wellbeing, culture and social events.

Now, WLQP wants to help even more people discover an activity they might never previously have considered trying.

The Autumn of Tasters is already underway, with sessions spanning tennis, hockey, rock climbing, cricket, touch rugby, football, spinning and yoga.

For activities such as tennis, hockey, rock climbing and cricket, WLQP isn’t looking to establish permanent teams or weekly sessions. Instead, the aim is to provide a pathway into existing sports and activities – removing some of the uncertainty or intimidation that can come with trying something new and helping participants discover where they can continue if they enjoy it.

The programme also includes tasters for WLQP’s established sporting activities, including football and touch rugby, giving newcomers an easy introduction before deciding whether they’d like to join regular sessions.

WLQP founder Aubrey Crawley said:

“I’ve witnessed first-hand how much joy, confidence and camaraderie sport can bring to people through our football and touch rugby programmes. Many of the people who now take part with us had never imagined themselves playing these sports before.

“Sometimes all people need is a pathway in; somewhere they feel welcome, where it doesn’t matter if they’ve never played before and where taking that first step feels a little less daunting.

“That’s really what our Autumn of Tasters is about. We want to give as many people from our community as possible the opportunity to try something new, get active, meet people and hopefully discover an activity they love.”

The sessions are designed particularly with beginners and people returning to sport or exercise in mind. There is no expectation of previous experience or ability, just an opportunity to give something a go.

The Autumn of Tasters continues across West London throughout autumn 2026, with further sessions and activities being announced by West London Queer Project.
