About the event
To celebrate LGBT+ History Month, we are welcoming you to The National Archives to view a range of records relating to past LGBTQ+ lives.
The National Archives might not seem like the most obvious place to research queer history; however, their collections give a valuable insight into how government interacted with and viewed LGBTQ+ communities in the past.Â
Their records reflect the policing and regulation of sexuality and gender identity but also surprising moments of defiance, everyday acceptance and queer joy.Â
Their collection contains unique records related to past LGBTQ+ lives, from calling cards to illicit love letters.
